Meet The Other Housemates

Meet the Locals 29/06/2022

Assistant Bar Manager

Michael Page

Tell us about your role?

I’m the Assistant Bar Manager and work with our Bar Manager, Flavio, and Restaurant Manager, Juan, as part of the food and beverage team.  We plan to redefine the bar industry by using seasonal and sustainable ingredients in all of our cocktails (and everything else we do).  You won’t find much tropical fruit on our menus, as you would in other bars, as we’ll be taking English produce to the next level!

What are you most looking forward to about working at The Other House?

Because we’re so focused on sustainability and minimising our carbon footprint, I’m loving the challenge of achieving the same flavours from English produce that you would from something like pineapple, coconut or passionfruit.  But we’re shaking up some exciting ingredients and it’s all tasting great. I’m excited to see how our guests enjoy the cocktails!

What do you like most about London?

I’m a Londoner born and bred, so I’m probably biased, but I love it.  You can’t get bored in London as there’s always something to do.  It has one of the best hospitality scenes in the world.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

Definitely curious as a monkey.  Cheeky, but with a few owl-like traits …

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

To live in the moment.

Restaurant Manager

JUAN JOSE RODRIGUEZ

What excites you most about working a The Other House?

Everything actually.  The Other House has everything it takes to become one of the very best in the industry – amazing accommodation, beautiful interiors, and of course, fantastic food and drink!  What’s not to be excited about?!

What does your typical day look like?

When you’re working on the floor, there is a lot of good energy and positivity.  We’re committed to creating new experiences and happy memories for our Residents, members and guests.

What skills do you need to do your job?

You need to be organised, patient and have a lot of energy.

What do you like most about your job?

That feeling when you’re preparing a service, and everything is ready to go and then you open the doors and welcome the guests and residents inside.  I love that moment.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Well, now that I’m a dad, I would say “listen to your mother!”  All of the times my mum would chase me around the house with a flip flop when i’d misbehaved and say “you’ll understand when you’re older” …  she was right and now I understand.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

Definitely curious as a monkey.  I love to discover new things through travel and have lived in many places around the world.

Guest Relations Manager

SYLVIE POTIRAKI

What do you like most about your job?

I love helping people.  I’m the person who stops to help a tourist in the street if they need directions and then gives them recommendations on what to do and see.  It makes me happy when I can help people.

What does your typical day look like?

Greeting people, making them feel at home, explaining how to use the App, telling them about our Club Flat facilities and how everything works in The Other House.  Sometimes it’s arranging a booking for them, either to use the wellness facilities or just having a drink in the bar.  It’s about getting to know our Residents and making them feel as welcome as possible.

What do you like most about London?

I’ve been living here for five years now and still find hidden gems.  There are endless possibilities in London, not only in terms of lifestyle but also for your career.

Are you wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

Curious and playful as a monkey.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Just be true to yourself and work with the universe to succeed.

What superpower would you most like to have?

Flying.  If I could fly above the clouds and go anywhere in the world… I would be sunbathing in the Maldives tomorrow!

What skills do you need to do your job?

You have to work well under pressure and be patient and honest.

Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Somewhere between Gal Gadot and Jennifer Lawrence.

Head of Housekeeping

SIMONA KRIVICKAITE

Tell us about your role?

I’m in charge of the day-to-day housekeeping operations and team.  All of our Operations team actually work very hand-in-hand with each other and act as one large team.  Our House Jacks are happy to make up the sofa beds and we are equally happy to make a cup of coffee for our Residents and guests.

What do you like most about London?

It’s the cultural diversity I would say, and the fantastic history.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

That would be Sandra Bullock.  Or if it was a man, it would be Larry David for sure, I love him – he’s hilarious!  It would be a comedy called “Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover”.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

Hopefully, I’m becoming an owl but that’s quite a long journey.  So, I would say that I’m a monkey.  I’m a little monkey still.

head of marketing

lydia morton

What does your typical day look like?

Well, when you’re in marketing, there really is no typical day.  It could be anything from working on a social media campaign to helping the procurement team with queries such as ‘what does our tote bag look like?’ or ‘what do our notebooks look like?’ and ‘what do the new brochures look like?’. We’re a brand-new brand, so absolutely everything that we do comes through marketing to ensure what people see is on brand, it’s consistent and it’s fully reflective of The Other House and our amazing style and ethos.

What skills do you need to do your job?

Definitely organisation, creativity, a bit of imagination and a lot of positive thinking. Great interpersonal skills because you have to get along with all of the different departments, as everything comes through marketing. You have to be able to get along with people and be able to reflect the vision of the brand outwardly.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I’m a bit of both.  I think you need to be naturally curious to work in marketing and also in hospitality.  You should be discovering new things absolutely every day. I also think being wise as an owl helps in certain circumstances.

Marmite?

Oh, I can’t stand it.

What do you like most about London?

I’m a born and bred Londoner, so I’m biased, but what I love most about life in London is the variety. Things are always changing; the city has changed so much in my lifetime.  The people and how welcoming we are as a city – you meet different people every day from all walks of life – I’m very proud to be a Londoner working in London.

What superpower would you most like to have?

I think I like the idea of being invisible because then I could do whatever I want and go wherever I wanted to.  I could hop on a plane and travel somewhere incognito.

What excites you most about working at The Other House?

Well, initially, it was the opportunity to be part of something entirely new, to be part of a team that was building something really ground-breaking. The idea is fascinating and nothing like this is being done in hospitality at the moment, so it’s a great opportunity to come and work with a new team and build something amazing. I can’t wait for us to open and start taking over the world!

Guest Relations Manager

MARK CARLISLE

Tell us a bit more about your role at The Other House?

As a Guest Relations Manager I’m responsible for ensuring the complete satisfaction of our guests, members and residents.  I’m their go-to-guy for any issues or queries they may have.

What skills do you need to do your job?

Lots of personality, patience and a good eye for detail.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

In my younger life, I was definitely more curious as a monkey and, hopefully, as I’ve become older, I’m wise as an owl.  By working for The Other House, I think I’m displaying my wisdom!

What excites you the most about working at The Other House?

Being a part of a new adventure and the successes that I know The Other House will achieve.

What do you like most about London?

The parks.  London is very green and there is nothing better than a stroll through one of the many parks.

Who would play you in a movie?

To duplicate these looks and amazing charm, I think I’d have to call on a young Denzel Washington J

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Every morning I wake up, I try to be thankful and grateful for just opening my eyes and seeing another day.  And it doesn’t hurt to be nice.

Marmite – love it or hate it?

Terrible, just terrible …

Front of House Manager

ZUZANA PIETROWSKA

Tell us a bit more about your role at The Other House?

I look after the front-of-house team and help ensure that residents and members are connected to our House Jacks when they need them.  A lot of my role is administrative, making sure that processes and procedures are up to date, efficient and that everyone on the team is happy.

What excites you most about working at The Other House?

The concept excites me because it’s redefining our industry.  I’ve been working in hospitality for over ten years and the concept of bringing members, residents and guests into one space and blurring traditional lines … it’s amazing.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I think I’m a bit of both, but definitely curious as a monkey.

What do you like most about London?

I like that it’s one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities and there are endless opportunities and things to do.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

To read people’s minds.

Director of Security

PIETER LEGRANGE

Tell us about your role …

What I love the most about my role is that every day is different.  One day it could be doing risk assessments for the security side of the business and the next, looking at it from a health and safety perspective.

What excites you most about working at The Other House?

The Other House’s commitment to sustainability.  I’m a firm believer in sustainability. I also like the focus on technology and how it makes life easier for myself and my team – we’re building our own app, which is phenomenal! We also believe in people and want to create memorable experiences for our residents, that’s why we work in hospitality!

What superpower would you most like to have?

Probably mind reading, so I understand more of what people want and need.

What skills do you need to do your job?

I think probably the biggest thing that is overlooked in my profession is people skills.  There was a very traditional way of doing security in the past and we have moved on significantly from that.  We’re able to resolve around 80% of potential problems just through providing good customer service.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I would say I’m wise enough to know that I’m probably curious as a monkey.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

I would like to say Hugh Jackman.  Just because the accents are probably quite similar.

Director of Operations

PER GRANSTROM

Tell us about your role …

My role is about the operational side of the busines.  So now, before we open, we are focused on setting up departments and making sure our managers feel comfortable setting up their procedures. I’m here to support them. I’m here to make sure they get another set of eyes over everything they do.

My background is across all operational departments, so I can also offer my team an opinion based on first-hand experience. However, I’m about empowerment and I love the fact that my team brings new ideas and their own way of doing things.

What skills do you need to be a Director of Operations?

Number one is passion. I believe that passion is the number one driver to become successful and it doesn’t matter what your role is in a business.  Number two, I would say creativity.  You have to be creative in order to create something new and to solve problems.  Number three, you have to be very organised.

What excites you most about working at The Other House?

What really drew me to the company was that it’s something entirely new, something that I’ve never seen before. I used to work for big brands in hospitality, and I feel like I have ticked that box.

Are you wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I would say that I’m both.  I am very curious.  I love doing new things, and this is one of the reasons that I joined The Other House, because it’s something completely new.

I am wise as an owl because… maybe it has something to do with age and the fact that I’ve been in the industry for quite a few years now. I’ve learned to stop and think before I act.

What superpower would you choose if you could choose any?

Iron Man, Tony Stark. I’d love to be that smart, so I could resolve any problem and build everything myself.

Night Manager

Gladys Jubane

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I’d like to say both, because I think what makes me wise is my curiosity.

Tell us a bit more about your role at The Other House …

Because the team is so much smaller at night, you tend to do a little bit of everything.

What skills do you need to do your job?

You have to be cool as a cucumber and know that there’s a solution to every situation you encounter… that helps you stay calm.

What do you like most about London?

Two things that I love about London the most… First, when I arrived, it was exactly as I imagined it from television, and even better. The second, is that it is so vibrant and every time that I go exploring, I find something completely new and different.

What excites you most about working at The Other House?

I come from a country where everyone that I know is affected in some way, shape or form by environmental and economic issues and poverty is a huge part of that. It has a lot to do with the choices we make every single day – even when you’re making those choices in Europe – it can affect somebody else in Africa.  So, I became incredibly passionate about this project when I understood and realised that the company puts sustainability at the forefront of everything they do.

Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Nia Long.  I like how she captures stories and makes them her own, and I think she would definitely “get me”.  I would call the movie “Two Roads”.

What superpower would you most like to have?

Oh my god.  Teleportation, no doubt, because I would love to teleport and hug my mum every day.

Assistant Front Office Manager

SYLVIA MANGANO

What excites you the most about working at The Other House?

I think this is a really exciting project!  It’s doing something completely new and innovating hospitality in London.  I’m really happy that I joined The Other House at the beginning of this journey.  Also, the tech side of things, the fact that our residents will be able to use the App to manage any aspect of their stay – it’s something totally new that hasn’t been done before.

Are you wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I think I’m curious as a monkey because I always like to investigate things. I’m always wanting to learn something new.  I ask a lot of questions.

What do you love most about London?

In London you can be whoever you want and do whatever you want without any kind of judgement.  It is also a kind of melting pot. In my seven years here, I have worked with and met people from all over the world, learning about their culture and traditions can be a very rewarding experience.

What skills do you need to have to be a Front Office Manager?

You need to be friendly but professional at the same time. Not just with your colleagues, but also with members, residents and guests.  You need to be flexible and able to adapt to different kinds of situations.

What superpower would you have if you could choose any?

I would like to read people’s minds.

Sales Manager

GEORGIA HAYDEN

Tell us about your role …

My role is to promote and sell the property to potential clients, whether that’s for a short, medium or long-term stay and to give the leisure and corporate markets a better understanding of who we are.

Who would play you in a movie about your life and what would the genre be?

I would like it to be a comedy and I think the person I would like to play me would be Emma Stone. I love her.

What does your typical day look like?

In sales, there’s no typical day. It can be anything from attending events across the world or being in the office and reaching out to clients.  As well as being on-property and showing off our beautiful Club Flats to prospective stays.

Wise as an owl or curious as a monkey?

I would say curious as a monkey.  If someone said, “push a button”, I’d probably push it just to see what happens.

What do you like most about London?

For me, it’s the best city in the world.  I grew up here, it’s my home and it’s where my friends and family are. I have never been to another destination that is so colourful and vibrant.  There’s no place like London.

Traveller or homebody?

Traveller.  You couldn’t be in this profession unless you were a traveller. With travel, you get to engage with so many different people from different backgrounds, and that helps you grow as a person.

What superpower would you most like to have?

I would love to be able to speak and understand every language there is.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t worry so much. It’s okay to take your time and learn from experience.  We’re all human, we all mistakes and you learn from them.

What skills do you need to do your job?

You have to be a people person and be open and interested in people and what they have to say.

Marmite – love it or hate it?

Disgusting.
