CONSCIOUS LIFESTYLE – ‘The Other House Way’

‘Our residents care about our planet. It is important that they can be part of our environmental journey and make a measurable personal difference.’ – The Other House CEO and Founder, Naomi Heaton

Sustainability is at the heart of The Other House. Our commitment to a positive environmental impact begins by refurbishing and repurposing historic buildings and building in the most sustainable way we can. By using eco-conscious materials, British-made fabrics and furniture, thinking about the way we operate and carrying out lifecycle assessments, we minimise our carbon footprint. Our sustainability agenda drives all of our daily practices – from using electricity rather than gas to enabling paperless interactions and running low-waste kitchens that serve seasonal, sustainable food.

This means we also do things a bit differently during your stay.  When it comes to servicing our Club Flats, we offer our Residents the luxury of choice and the opportunity to be as self-sufficient or full-service as you like, so that you can help reduce waste and minimise our carbon footprint. Here are just a few ways that sustainability impacts your stay and some answers to common questions:

How often will I receive housekeeping?

Every stay at The Other House includes a Weekly Full Service of your Club Flat, this does not need to be booked and will automatically occur every seven days from your arrival date.

In addition, you can also arrange Housekeeping Lite at any time during your stay.  This is entirely chemical free and includes emptying the bins, making the bed, folding towels, a light tidying and wiping down surfaces.  If you are staying with us for less than 14 nights, this service is complimentary.  If you are staying for more than 14 nights, it can be arranged for a reasonable charge, in line with your Club Flat rate.

Housekeeping Lite can be ordered up to 6pm the night before via the App or by messaging a House Jack. If you don’t request this, we will leave you to take care of the tidying.  If you would like to have a Full Service more frequently than once a week, you can order it up to 6pm the night before, for an additional charge, in line with your Club Flat rate.

What will I find in my Club Flat?

In your kitchen, you are provided with sustainably sourced coffee pods, tea and washing up liquid, as well as dishwasher tablets.  This is in addition to crockery, cutlery, a kettle, toaster, coffee machine and other kitchen staples.

If you are staying with us for 14 nights or more, you will receive a complimentary welcome hamper with a few items for the cupboard and fridge to get you started.

In your bathroom, you will find bath and body products, which are sustainably made in the English countryside.  All products are vegan, paraben free and made from recyclable materials.

Dressing gowns are only available upon request due to the environmental impact of laundering. However, if you would like one, please speak to a House Jack at reception who will be happy to help.

Why don’t the windows open in my Club Flat?

At The Other House South Kensington, we want to be as energy efficient as possible to reduce our carbon footprint.  This means that in most of our Club Flats our fully thermally insulated windows do not open.  Instead, we use a cutting-edge environmental control system which runs 24 hours a day and has four separate filters to purify the incoming air down to a microscopic level.  It supplies sufficient fresh air to fully change each Club Flat’s air supply 17 times an hour to ensure the comfort of our Residents. The in-room air conditioning units then take this fresh air supply and moderates it to be cooler or warmer depending on each Resident’s needs.
