Keeping Positive During the Winter Months

Five mindful practices you can do from home

Carmella is Co-Founder and Director of Mamma Wellbeing. After creating an award-winning events company, exhausted and with the added stress of a break up, Carmella left for Asia in search of peace and healing. Two months later she found herself transformed by the wealth of experiences and wisdom from her journey and learnt how to get the best out of life through inner peace and renewed wellbeing. Carmella resolved to make it her life’s work to help people find the healing therapies that she found to be so beneficial on her journey toward health and happiness.

Here, Carmella shares five mindful practices you can do from home to keep positive during the winter months.

  1. Breathwork – Whether it’s a mindful slow breath to calm us down or a Wim Hof breathing exercise to move energy through the body, breathwork can be a quick and effective way to switch the script when we’re feeling low or negative.
  2. Meditation – Meditation isn’t always easy, but it works. If you find it hard to practice on your own, find a recorded meditation that works for you, you may have to try a few out before you find one that you like. The Mamma Wellbeing app has a number of meditations on demand, from 10 minutes to 1 hour, or you can find many on YouTube.
  3. Home Spa – Going to a spa is a way of giving ourselves a big hug, allowing for relaxation, by escaping to a sanctuary. If you can’t make it to a spa, then create a relaxing home environment that feels like a spa – light candles and incense, play relaxing music, take a bath with oils, and then take the time to pamper yourself afterwards with your favourite body cream, essential oils and a bit of quiet time.
  4. Self Massage – Learning a facial self massage technique is a beautiful self care and mindful practice to do in the evening, plus you should see some pleasing visual results after a couple of weeks! You can find videos online or book a facial massage treatment in The Other House treatment room where you can learn first hand from one of Mamma Wellbeing’s facial practitioners.
  5. Gratitude – The deep power of gratitude has been written a lot about over the last few years and many swear by its resonating positive effects. Why not try writing five things you’re grateful for every morning and evening and see how it transforms your mindset.
