We are delighted to welcome Sarah Grant, curator of Marie Antoinette Style, to The Other House South Kensington for an exclusive talk created especially for our members and residents.
In this intimate evening, Sarah Grant will offer a curator’s insight into the enduring influence of Marie Antoinette – the most fashionable, and famously ill-fated, queen in history. A style-setter in her own lifetime and an early modern celebrity, Marie Antoinette shaped a visual language that continues to resonate more than 250 years later across design, fashion, film and the decorative arts.
Grant will explore how the Queen’s distinctive approach to dress, interiors and self-image has been continually reinterpreted, inspiring generations of creatives from couture designers to filmmakers. From eighteenth-century court dress to contemporary fashion houses, and from Versailles to the silver screen, this talk reveals why Marie Antoinette remains a powerful and provocative cultural figure.
